Licenses and attribution
Everything you need to know about Freepik licenses — what each type allows, when to attribute, and how to keep your license documents safe.
Every resource you download from Freepik comes with a license that defines how you can use it. The type of license depends on your subscription plan. How to attribute correctly
When attribution is required, include the line Designed by Freepik in a clear, visible location on your final product, along with a link to www.freepik.com.
The best placement is next to the resource you used. If that is not possible, place it in the footer of your website, in the credits section of your project, or in the description of your content.
Attribution examples by media
| Media | Where to place attribution |
|---|---|
| Website or blog | Next to the image, or in the website footer with a link to freepik.com |
| Social media | In the post caption or image description, with a link to freepik.com |
| Video | In the video credits, at the end of the video, or in the video description on the hosting platform |
| Book or printed material | On the credits page or in the bibliography. Example: Cover designed by Freepik |
| Mobile app or game | In the credits section of the app, or in the app store description |
| Presentation | On the slide where the resource is used, or on a credits slide at the end |
| Email or newsletter | In the footer of the email, with a link to freepik.com |
What the license allows
With any Freepik license, you can:
- Use the resource in personal and commercial projects.
- Use it in digital and printed media — websites, apps, games, books, magazines, presentations, videos, advertisements, and more.
- Alter the resource and create derivative works.
- Use it worldwide, in any media, an unlimited number of times.
What the license does not allow
- Sublicense, sell, or rent any Freepik content — including modified versions.
- Redistribute the original file or make it available for others to download.
- Use Freepik resources in logos or trademarks, as the copyright belongs to the original author.
- Claim ownership of the original design.
Merchandise License
The Merchandise License allows you to use non-AI Premium assets on physical products for sale, including Print-on-Demand items. You can produce and sell up to 100,000 units per licensed asset. This includes all forms of physical merchandise: t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, tote bags, and more.
While your Pro subscription is active, any license you download for a non-AI Premium file will be classified as Merchandise and will remain valid even after your subscription ends. The license document includes the download date as proof of your Pro subscription at the time of download.
We strongly recommend downloading and saving these documents to your computer or an external drive.
Using resources after your subscription expires
Yes, you can continue using resources you downloaded during your active subscription. The license you received at the time of download remains valid even after your subscription ends — as long as you comply with the Terms of Use stated in the license document.
If your subscription expires and you later download the same resource as a free user, the Free license terms apply — including the attribution requirement.
How to download license documents
Freepik resources
Log in with an active subscription
You must have a Premium, Premium+, or Pro subscription to download Premium license documents.
Download the resource
When you download a resource, a PDF license document is automatically included in the download package.
Access past licenses
Go to your profile, open My Collections, then Stock downloads. You can download the license for any previously downloaded resource from there.
Save the document
Store the license PDF on your computer or an external drive. You will not be able to download it again after your subscription expires.
Flaticon resources
Flaticon has its own license system:
- Individual icons — Download the license from the Downloads tab in your account. Each license covers one specific icon.
- Icon packs — Download the pack license from the license button on the pack page. One license covers all icons in the pack.
- Icon collections — The ZIP file includes a License folder with an HTML file. Open it to generate the PDF license covering all icons in the collection.
Flaticon licenses
Flaticon has its own licenses separate from Freepik. The same general rules apply: Premium, Premium+, and Pro subscribers can use Flaticon content without attribution. Free and Essential users must include attribution.
Remember to download your Flaticon license PDFs while your subscription is active, as the same expiration rules apply.
Common questions
What are Premium licenses?
Premium licenses allow you to use Freepik and Flaticon resources without crediting the author, as long as you have an active Premium, Premium+, or Pro subscription.
Can I keep using resources after my subscription expires?
Yes. Resources you downloaded during your active subscription can continue to be used under the license terms you received at the time of download. Make sure to save your license documents before your subscription ends.
Do I need to attribute if I have a Premium plan?
No. Premium, Premium+, and Pro subscribers do not need to attribute. Free and Essential users must include attribution.
Can I use Freepik resources in a logo?
No. Freepik resources cannot be used in logos or trademarks because the copyright of the original design remains with the author.
Can I transfer my license to a client?
You do not need to transfer the license. Your license covers the use of the resource in projects you create for clients. The license is non-transferable, but the work you produce using the licensed resource can be delivered to your client.
What is the Merchandise License?
The Merchandise License is available exclusively to Pro subscribers. It allows you to use non-AI Premium assets on physical products for sale, up to 100,000 units per asset. AI-generated resources are excluded.
Can I download licenses after my subscription expires?
No. License PDF documents can only be downloaded while your subscription is active. Save all your license documents before your subscription ends.
